I’M A PEACOCK CAPTAIN, YOU GOTTA LET ME FLY
You are about to enter another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. A journey into the wonderous land of must-see TV, low budgets, and sweeps ratings madness. A place where EMMYS were won, stock markets surged, and politics was becoming the sport of cable network news. Next stop, Danya’s career at NBC.
The best part of growing up in journalism in NYC were the risks we were allowed to take, and the excitement of being able to try almost ANYTHING. All of these were written, directed, and produced by me with the exception of the Bartiromo spot which was written by my coworker, and the CNBC image campaign which I co-produced with my VP. In this series of spots, I managed to:
Close down 5th Ave on a Tuesday morning, near the flatiron building
Was one of the ONLY people to ever be allowed on the floor of the stock exchange with a full camera crew during active trading hours
Include my childhood hero Flash Gordon in a spot
And create a spot that to this day, almost 20 years later, still has people yelling “Stella” at NY anchorman Maurice Dubois.
These spots are cheesy, fun, and very of the time in which they were created. Dare I say some of the most fun I ever had being a Writer/Producer/Director.
